Torah commands that we should rid ourselves of negative habits like hatred, jealousy, evil speaking, and the like feelings for payback.   We are instructed “do not hate your brother in your heart,” (Lev. 19.17).  Yet, we expected to physically help those who are our enemies.

“For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying,`You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.’ (Deu 15:11 NKJ)

“For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good;  (Mar 14:7 NKJ)
